A small Vero detail before you head out: Vero Beach Museum of Art has added a turnaround, pedestrian walkway and accessible parking during construction, so follow the posted signs rather than your old parking routine. This weekend, give each outing one job: cars with the kids, a barbecue lunch, or an evening of music. There’s no prize for driving to all three.

Tomorrow: an art hour for the littlest locals
Museum Stories: Creative Colors—0–24 Months is Wednesday, September 23, 9:30–10:30 a.m. at the museum in Vero: books, songs, movement and making art together. $5 per family; members free. Preregistration is required. This is the baby-and-caregiver session, not the later preschool group. It’s a manageable indoor morning without committing the family to a whole museum day.

This Weekend Across the Coast

Downtown Stuart Car & Bike Show: Saturday, Sept. 26, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in the city hall and annex lots, 121 SW Flagler Avenue. My family pick for kids who stop to inspect every interesting vehicle. Make it a morning wander, not an endurance test; you can leave when everyone has picked a favorite.
PSL Bacon and BBQ Festival: Sept. 26–27 at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center; Saturday runs 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is free; budget separately for food. Go for lunch rather than treating it as a full-day obligation. One lap before ordering beats discovering your favorite stall after you’ve already eaten.
Dottie Kelly & Rock The House Band: Saturday, 5:30–8:30 p.m. at The Loop at Riverside Theatre in Vero. Free outdoor soul, blues and R&B make this the strongest low-cost date-night choice. Bring a lawn chair; walk-up tables depend on availability. Purchases are cashless, and outside food and drinks are not permitted.

I’d choose Dottie Kelly & Rock The House Band on Saturday. This wins for couples or friends who want to go out without turning dinner and entertainment into a major purchase. The 5:30 start lets you have a proper evening and still get home early; the soul-and-blues set gives the outing a reason beyond “we should do something.” My caveat: this is outdoors, not a rain-proof theater ticket. Bring a chair, bring a payment card, and leave the cooler at home. One good evening is enough.
